Thank you so much for joining us to record the show! If you have any questions after reading this guide, feel free to reach out to us.
Before the Show
Before the show we will share a Google Doc with you that we use to prepare. Feel free to put in whatever notes you’d like and contribute to the show outline. We’ll likely be updating it right up to the point we hit record, and sometimes we keep adding things like links we reference for the show notes.
Skype Settings
We record remotely using Skype. We do ask you change a few settings before recording. Open up Audio and Video preferences either from the Menu Bar or by clicking the three dots in the lower corner right of the call. Click on Audio & Video settings. Make sure your mic is selected and turn off the “Automatically Adjust Microphone Settings.”

We don’t typically record with video on since its an audio medium and we don’t want to lose some of the reactions to body language, but if it makes you more comfortable, we can turn on our video.
Recording Your End
Though we do record the Skype call as a backup, we do ask that you record your end so we can make a cleaner edit. Make sure to wear headphones so the other speakers don’t bleed into your recording.
If you’re on a Mac, you can use QuickTime to record your audio. You can find the option by going to File ➡️ New Audio Recording.

Once you have a recording palette, click the chevron to the right of the recording button and make sure the microphone you want to use is selected. High quality is fine for the show.

If you’re recording on a PC, Window 10 does have a Voice Recorder app. If you’re on an older OS, you can download Audacity for free to record. We can help you set that up before the show.
If you don’t have a dedicated microphone to use, its likely best to use your cellphone. Voice Memos on iPhone or the equivalent on Android do a good job catching your voice. Just make sure the phone is close to you.
Worst case scenario, you can use the microphone in a pair of headphones.
Post Show
After the show is over, please send Alec the file you recorded. Typically we use Google Drive, but any download link is fine, including send it in the Skype chat window. Usually the show is posted within two days of recording. Thanks again for joining us!
